Delphi Town

Leaving Thebes, we drove west into the mountains to our destination, Delphi, sitting on the southern slopes of Mt. Parnassos, and overlooking the Gulf of Corinth.

In ancient Greece, Delph was famous as the home of a prophetess known as the oracle.  Now there is a nice town a half-mile from the ancient ruins.  We would stay in Delphi tonight, and visit the ancient ruins and museum tomorrow.

These are mostly pictures from the balconey of our AirBnB.

"Delphi was custom-built to accomodate the hordes of tourists.  The main street, Vasileos Pavlou-Friderikis, is a tight string of hotels, cafes, restauranats, and souvenir shops.  Two other streets run roughly parallel to this main drag (Apollonos is one block uphill/north, and Filellinon is one block downhill/south), connected periodically by steep stairways.  The three streets converge at the eastern end of town."  ... Our AirBnb was on Apollonos street, uphill from the main drag.

We met the AirBnB owner, who was very nice and spoke excellent English.  Her father had reserved a parking spot right in front of the lodging and helped us park.  He didn't speak English but was very friendly and helpful.  He had made some liquor which he encouraged us to try and it was excellent.  I'm sorry I didn't get any pictures of them, or the lodging.  It was an excellent stay, as were all of our Greek AirBnBs, actually.

We walked down the hill in the evening and had a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant on the main drag.
